Overview
Why?
As a New Jersey native for over 20 years, one of the best perks of living here is the quick commute to New York City. Tickets to board NYC-bound trains used to be solely paper tickets and soon enough evolved into a digital ticketing system via the NJ Transit app.
Despite the easy commute to the city, the process of buying tickets, and view schedules have several usability issues which might make the travel frustrating. I was inspired to see how I can inspect the current usability issues with the app and work on creating solutions that improve the experience for users of the app.
While my primary focus was improving the commute from NJ to NYC. NJ Transit has several modes of transport within and outside of NJ including bus, rail, and light rail.
How do people feel about it?
“There’s too much color on the page. It’s very overwhelming look at.”
“Many users are still sticking to the outdated version of the app. The new app seems to overcomplicate the test-taking process”
“It feels like there’s too much going on on the page. The simplicity of the original app is more appealing”
After getting initial feedback through user interviews, our team worked on conducting a heuristic evaluation of the initial redesign of Docs & Tests. We wanted to evaluate where the usability issues lied in the first version.
